Beach Parties and and how to deal with it
28 Sep 09
Dear Residents,
With summer just around the corner the community problem of Beach Parties may well be with us again.
As you know the police and the community continually face a range of issues which stem directly from weekend Beach Parties. Issues are not solely isolated to one geographical area and include under age drinking, anti-social behaviour, malicious damage to council and private property and unwanted noise for you, the local residents. Additionally issues regularly arise including assaults and traffic matters.
WE ARE APPEALING FOR YOU TO HELP US WITH THIS PROBLEM.
Early warning to the police of a build up of people in beachside reserves or parks is critical to managing the problem – ‘nipping it in the bud’. If you notice numbers of people walking or driving in to the beach area, particularly early in the evening, then ring
COFFS HARBOUR POLICE STATION on 66520299 (or 000 if urgent)
We will soon check it out and decide whether they are legitimate users of the area or whether we need to take action to disperse them before it gets out of hand. These parties mainly occur on a Friday night, with some on a Saturday night. However, they have at times occurred on other nights during school holidays. Similarly, if police have attended and left but the problem persists or people return to the area then contact us again as soon as possible.
All contacts are strictly confidential.
We also want to identify and prosecute those that are supplying alcohol to underage drinkers. If you know of a person or parent involved in this then contact Coffs Harbour Licensing Police (66520217) or Coffs Harbour Youth Liaison Officers (66520285), or leave a message on their answering machines (checked daily). Alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
To enable us to better assess the incidents associated with these parties we strongly encourage you to report any damage, theft etc which you may later discover to your property by ringing the Police Assistance Line (PAL) on 131444 (for example graffiti, damage to car parked in the street, damaged or stolen letterbox etc). Every crime reported to PAL is immediately disseminated to us locally at the time of reporting.
We are keen to get on top of the problem and reduce the impact of these parties on the community this summer. Police will be speaking with students leading up to the summer months, informing them of the dangers of underage drinking and the impact anti-social behaviour and malicious damage has on the community.
